Phonology
Course
Part-time: 12 hours
Aim: To help teachers become more aware of the importance of this much ignored area, give them the knowledge and the confidence to deal with it, and also give a wide range of exiting activities to use in the classroom.
Course description: The course looks at all the main areas of phonology; word stress, prominence, sounds, pitch, rhythm and tonal movement, the theoretical ideas behind them, problems learners have with them, and strategies to help them improve.
Language Analysis Course
Part-time: 8 hours
Aim: To introduce teachers to new ideas within grammar, help them to reassess the way grammar is taught and therefore become more confident about dealing with it in the classroom.
Course description: The course begins by looking at attitudes to and ways of analyzing language, and this is then used in the analysis of discreet areas such as multi-word verbs, continuous and perfect aspect, the conditionals, modal verbs and ways of expressing the future. Classroom considerations and the introduction of these areas and grammar in general follows on from the analysis.
Vocabulary Course
Part-time: 8 hours
Aim: To help teachers become more aware of the background issues related to vocabulary and to provide a variety of stimulating activities.
Course description: The course examines the origins and development of vocabulary, its meanings, its grammar and classroom considerations such as the importance of memory and written storage. Presentation, practice and expansion activities range from teacher centered ideas on helping learners to develop their own strategies to efficiently increase their store of vocabulary. Published teaching materials will also be examined.
