BLC ESOL Teacher Training Certificate
The BLC ESOL Certificate is a 100 hour initial training course to start teachers on their careers as English language teachers.
The course consists of four main areas; input seminar sessions, teaching practice, written assignments & observations of BLC teachers.

Seminar sessions
These are very practical & consist or lots of pair & group work whilst examining a wide range of teaching techniques & activities.
The areas covered on the course consist of:
- The Learner & motivation
- The Teacher & classroom management
- Language awareness & performance analysis.
- Syllabus, timetabling & lesson planning
- Materials design & resources
- Developing the four skills, Speaking, Listening, Reading & Writing
- Introducing & developing language - grammar, vocabulary, function, phonology & discourse.
- Teaching the younger learner
- Teaching the business learner
- Assessment
Teaching practice
This consists of each trainee being observed teaching a group of Spanish learners. A feedback session follows the teaching.
Written assignments
There are two written assignments
1. A profile of the teaching practice students - 1000 words.
2.An analysis of written discourse - 1000 words.
Observations
Each trainee observes a series of observations of experienced BLC teachers.
Assessment
At the end of the course successful trainees are awarded a grade; Pass or Pass with merit. This is based on teaching practice development & the standard of the written work.

To have an awareness of language and a competence in English, both written and spoken, that enables candidates to follow the course.
